2024 A year in review
The year started with a wake up at campsite in the Royal National Park. We had a chill New Years Eve in the Royal National Park with a healthy dose of wilderness to start the new year. The hike into the campground was perfect, through rugged bushland and then on open up to some majestic sea cliffs.
This was some easy backpacking as we only had to walk a 5kms to the campground. Some parts of the hike parts were overgrown and like in Japan where people have a bear scare, in the Australian bush you have snake scare and that's why we were wearing gaiters. They give you confidence to walk in the bush and it's to reduce the risk of encountering an aggressive snake. Which by the way I have never encountered, all snake encounters have been chill.
Staying in the NSW over Christmas is always a joy, and the relaxed summer atmosphere on the beach is best part of traveling there for the Christmas break.
Our next outing was back in Victoria, we decided to hike up Mt Bogong, Victoria's tallest mountain and I was getting a lot my hiking gear back in order to do the overnighter.
Unfortunately, I injured my lower back just before the drive out to Mount Beauty. It was a real downer as I wanted to do this hike for a while. Anyways we decided not to waste the long weekend and go there anyways and check out that part of the country out and I'm glad we did because it's a beautiful part of the country.
This look out is amazing view of the valley and we went the next day morning to catch the sunrise.
During our stay in Mount Beauty, we did a small hike and dip in the Kiewa River Gorge, and it was an amazing place. Unique and fun place with a little bit of canyoning further up the river. I loved it.
I am looking forward to going back here and doing the overnighter to Mt Bogong. It's such a relaxing and beautiful area. It has wilderness as well a crisp country air.
